NEB prize

ACRED and the College for Advanced Social Studies are currently working together to create a long term, predictable housing for the students. The Ganz compound is a familiar territory for ACRED since the Kazán Community House is there as well. According to the plans, the affordable housing units would be on the top two floors of the four-floor building. The top floor would contain 10 apartments, while the first floor would house 40 students of the second oldest college for advanced studies in Hungary. The ground floor would provide office space for social organizations, as well as rentable community spaces for various programmes. In the basement there would be workshops, music studios and storage units. The building would be renovated with environmentally conscious methods, creating an optimal space for communal goals. The principles of the project are participation and affordability, which secure that social organizations and cooperatives can find a home and can strengthen each other. The project can pave the way for other non-profit, communal and sustainable utilization of empty or under-utilized buildings. Our plan was awarded a prize in the New European Bauhaus festival, which was organized for the second time by the European Commission. In the four year history of the prize, our project is the first to win it from Hungary. Our project was selected from more than 500 applicants, titled: Cooperative Ownership for Communities.

Erasmus project

ACRED is currently working on a small-scale partnership project together with Ko gradi grad titled: ‘Developing learning materials for prospective residents of community-led affordable housing projects’, thanks to the Erasmus + KA210-ADU.The goal of the ENABLERS4HOUSING small-scale partnership project is to develop new study materials for individuals and groups interested in participating in community developed and affordable housing projects. The initiative aims to react to the current housing- and energy-crisis, especially impacting the central- and southeastern-european regions. Our goal is to collect and strengthen the knowledge and experiences the organizations have amassed over the years. Based on these, we can create various study materials, which will help us support other grass-roots housing projects in Hungary.
